ANXIETY: DOES GOD TRULY HAVE MY BACK?

Hello readers, how are we doing today? I hope we were rejuvenated from yesterday’s post? I’m glad I was able to inspire one or two of you; it can only be better. Still on the issue of anxiety; this topic seems wider than I thought and I trust that God, the Holy Spirit will open the eyes of our understanding. Amen. Hope this blesses someone.
Yet another big question: “Does God really have my back?” I would like to share my little experience. I used to be a regular customer to anxiety, I could be anxious for the littlest thing in this world. It became a burden because once I’m all alone, negative thoughts just keep rolling in and then I begin to question God’s promises.
“People tend to dwell more on negative things than on good things. So the mind then becomes obsessed with negative things, with judgments, guilt and anxiety produced by thoughts about the future and so on.” ~Eckhart Tolle.
“Worry pretends to be necessary, but serves no useful purpose”
Not like I did not know the key to overcoming anxiety (as I have written in my last post), I just choose not to use it because even after I sing and pray, I still felt scared about the outcome of whatever it is I was anxious for. I say to myself “after this prayer now, what if God doesn’t want this for me? What if I am only wasting my time? What if this, what if that?”
“It’s sad, actually, because my anxiety keeps me from enjoying
things as much as I should at this age.”
I’m in the process of finally getting over anxiety; though I haven’t reached the peak yet. Trust me, it is a gradual process but a journey of a thousand miles starts with just a step. Therefore, I feel it is cool we start this process together. I must say, it takes a high level of faith and trust in God to be able to shut the mouth of the devil concerning the fear of the unknown.
Overcoming anxiety requires putting God first. Is fear of the unknown leading to anxiety? Turn the situation over to the God who knows everything and is in control of it all. Are overwhelming circumstances causing anxiety? Have faith in God. When the disciples became distressed in a storm, Jesus first rebuked their lack of faith, then rebuked the wind and the waves Matt 8:26 “why are you so frightened?” Jesus answered. “How little faith you have!” Then Jesus got up and ordered the winds and the waves to stop, and there was a great calm. When I came across this part of the Bible, what got to me was the fact that the disciples’ faiths were shaking but Jesus understood their desire to be saved. He however rebuked their lack of faith and brought them out of their dilemma afterwards. As long as we are with Jesus, there is nothing to fear.
Also, feed your spirit with the Word of God. There is a statement that says “you cannot give what you do not have.” Jesus Christ was able to overcome the devil’s temptations because He had the Word. When these negative thoughts crawl in like they normally do, it will be easy to overcome because you have the key just in your heart and mouth. The Bible has so many promises for different situations. These are few of the very many promises of the Father:
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
When we remember these promises, we use them whenever anxiety comes in and the peace that passes all understanding naturally becomes ours.  We may not be able to prevent anxious thoughts from entering our minds, but we can practice the right response.
I hope you agree with me now that God’s got your back whenever you want to feel anxious because you understand that He is the Jehovah Ezer meaning “The Lord my Help”. Remember, DO NOT allow doubts and see yourself enjoying an anxious free life.
Yours,
                                                                                                                                                 Kanyinsola.
